IIT Kanpur DoMS MBA: Overview

The Department of Management Sciences (DoMS), IIT Kanpur offers a full-time general-management MBA that combines management education with IIT Kanpur's analytical, technology and research ecosystem. The programme is spread over four semesters and a summer term and includes compulsory courses, electives, a summer project and a capstone project.

Why DoMS is different

DoMS is not a specialised MBA degree. The degree is general MBA, while students build their interest areas through electives across management and other IIT Kanpur departments. The department highlights areas such as operations, analytics, finance, marketing, economics, IT and systems, sustainability and energy policy.

For applicants, the biggest eligibility filter is Mathematics at 10+2. Non-engineers can apply, but the published criteria require Mathematics as one of the subjects and specify academic and CAT benchmarks.

80 percentile is not a guaranteed call

DoMS says actual category-wise shortlisting cutoffs can be decided according to the number of eligible applications and approved seats. There is no published sectional CAT cutoff; overall CAT percentile is considered.

For a practical application strategy, treat the published benchmark as the minimum screening threshold, not as a safe-score promise.
